Dear Brethren, I never cease to be amazed at the incredible
grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. After many last
minute preparations, along with attending the funeral for longtime street
preacher Steve Stevenson, we departed Pensacola in route to El Paso, Texas.
Things seemed to be going well until we got just inside the Texas border where
our motor threw a rod through the oil pan. My wife said, "Is that
bad?" I replied that it doesn’t get much worse than that. We coaxed it
to a parking lot right off the freeway and spent the night there. In the
morning I surveyed the situation and realized I was not going to fix it in the
parking lot! I prayed for wisdom and called the only Independent Baptist
Church in the book to get some directions and find where I might be able to park
the trailer while I "attempted" to work on the truck. There just HAPPENED to
be someone there to answer the phone and they sent a man down to take a look.
He took one look at the engine and said, "It’s gonna have to come out." Things looked pretty bleak at this point. After conferring with the pastor though, these folks insisted on towing us to THEIR CHURCH where they just HAPPENED to have an RV hook-up. This same brother who looked at the truck just HAPPENED to have everything needed to pull and rebuild an engine. These same wonderful folks insisted on taking up a love offering for us on Sunday night. What would have cost at least $2,000 at any repair shop, was taken care of by the wonderful saints at Faith Baptist Church of Vidor, Texas. A special Thank You goes to Bro. Mike Petrie, who would not take anything for the many long hours of labor he put into our truck. He was able to salvage our motor, which would not even have been good enough for a "Core Charge" if we had gone anywhere else. Thanks also to Pastor Andy Chute and all of the wonderful folks at Faith Baptist Church who helped out in so many, many ways. These folks were so good to us. They brought us dinner every night (good food!) came around everyday asking if there was anything we needed...we honestly enjoyed a mini-vacation...hard to believe it started with what seemed like disaster! Thanks to all of you who have prayed for us. I’m sure glad God just HAPPENED to be in control on this trip and turned a seeming disaster into untold blessings, Amen? Oh, and one more thing, before we left Pensacola, we
received 7,000 Chick Tracts, mostly in Spanish. We hoped to get to street
preach and pass out tracts in Juarez, Mexico, as well as El Paso. But we had never been in Mexico and had no connections in El Paso or Jaurez. Well, Pastor Chute just HAPPENED to know a missionary to
Juarez based in El Paso! We attempted to contact him when we arrived there. He was out of town, but put us in contact with a veteran missionary in Juarez. We will fill you in on the details in our March 2001 prayer/newsletter.
