Divine Encouragement

Scripture Reading: 1 Sam. 30:1-6

Text: 1 Sam. 30:6

And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him,

because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God.

I.             The encouragement in the word

2 Chronicles 31:4  Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.

II.       The encouragement in the warfare

Judges 20:22  And the people the men of Israel encouraged themselves, and set their battle again in array in the place where they put themselves in array the first day.

III. The encouragement in the worship

2 Chronicles 35:2  And he set the priests in their charges, and encouraged them to the service of the house of the LORD,

IV.     The encouragement in the workers

Isaiah 41:7  So the carpenter encouraged the goldsmith, and he that smootheth with the hammer him that smote the anvil, saying, It is ready for the sodering: and he fastened it with nails, that it should not be moved.

V.           The encouragement in the watchman

Deuteronomy 1:38  But Joshua the son of Nun, which standeth before thee, he shall go in thither: encourage him: for he shall cause Israel to inherit it.

Deuteronomy 3:28  But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

·         As one of the only two scouts to come back with a good report, Joshua would be exalted to the premier position in the armies of the Lord.

·         He would only have to wait 40 YEARS to see this come to pass!

·         Think about that next time you want to hurry God!
