In our text, Ahaz gets a little rattled when he finds out he is being ganged up on from two sides.
Don't you get rattled when the world, the flesh and the devil seem to be ganging up on you?
First thing you better not do is listen to your heart. In verse two it says, "...his heart was moved...".
Remember what the word of God says in Jer.17:9-10...
"The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins..."
When you trust your heart and
"...as the trees of the wood are moved with the wind..."
so too will you be...
"...tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of
doctrine..."So what are we to do?
Take Heed and Be Quiet!
1. Take Heed to the word of God: Ps.119:9; 2Pt.1:19
2. Take Heed to the Holy Spirit: Hos.4:10
3. Take Heed to the Preacher: Ecc.12:9
4. Take Heed to the Brethren: 1Co.8:9; Gal.5:15
5. Take Heed to Yourself: Acts 20:28; 1Tim4:16; 1Co.10:12; 1Co.3:10
Are you taking heed to these things in your life?
If not, you may need to heed some advice from Paul and...
"...study to be quiet..." (1Th.4:11)
or as the Lord said in Ps.46:10...
"Be still, and know that I am God..."
Do you know the Lord Jesus Christ as your
Saviour? 2Co.6:2 says...
"(For he
saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)"
